On the left you can follow links to a variety of articles written to address some of those life-long mysteries; such as:

Which side should I rig my Octopus?"
Should I use a long hose?
Is it easy to dive in a twinset?
Does using Nitrox make me a technical diver?

These questions and more are left completely unanswered; although you might find that you are able to answer them for yourself after reading what I have to say.

This is not a sales pitch, there are many who would disagree with the kit I use and even more who would argue against the way it is configured.
My advice is...
...listen to others, if it sounds sensible and it won't damage or kill you - try it; if you don't like it - ditch it.
Before embarking on any new kit purchase ask yourself the following question:

"How much is my life worth?"

This one question should balance out any bargains versus the new and look good purchases. None of us are perfect - I like my kit in a certain way - others don't; I always carry out a formal buddy check and kit briefing with new or unfamiliar buddies and am still thorough (albeit informally) with everybody with whom I dive regularly as this will negate most of the problems we could face underwater.

As my diving has progressed so my kit purchases have become more to do with the question "Can I use it for...?" or "Is it fit for purpose?", rather than "Is this the latest...?"

75% of my diving is currently in UK waters (both inshore and coastal) some penetration of wrecks; but so far no caves or caverns. I take good care of my equipment because it's the only thing keeping me alive in an inhospitable environment - you should do the same.

Another motto to remember:
"If you need 1 - take 2
If you don't need it - leave it behind"
(This statement excludes your buddy)
